We've already done our Papyrus Kit (not too complicated) and so it's time to move on to Mummies!

Some thoughts:

Ancient Egypt is 932 in the Dewey Decimal system.  Resources are easy to find.

Charles Kovacs' book only has one Ancient Egyptian myth. She used some wonderful plant dyed wool felt that we got years ago at one of Rahima's conferences, and put little jingle bells on the toes.  We sewed non-slip shelf liner material to the bottom of them so that she wouldn't fall down walking on the wood floors.

The Autumnal Equinox was yesterday; it is the perfect time to plant garlic.  We did all the bulbs we had on hand:  daffodils in the daylily bed and garlic in the herb garden.  Garlic also grows really well with roses, by the way.




Garlic is super-easy for the home gardener and organic garlic bulbs can be found at the grocery store. Children all over the state read the books and vote on their favorite, one vote per child.  Unlike the Newbery or Caldecott awards, this is a book chosen by the children who have read it.  I love that idea!

You can have a child age first grade or older knit and then felt the flat piece of fabric in the washing machine.
